Do You Hear What I Hear?

It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas...

Okay, so maybe that isn't really how the song goes. But everywhere you turn, it really does sound like Christmas. From the stores packed with holiday shoppers, mindlessly humming Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer as they search for the latest bargains, to the always present, never overdone Hershey's commercial wishing you a Merry Christmas in the form of little ringing kiss shaped bells, Christmas songs are everywhere.

Now if you're in the Chicago area, you know it's sounded like Christmas since November 1, thanks to the Lite's mission of overwhelming the listening area with the sounds of the season before we've even polished off the last of the Halloween candy. They've been decking the halls and rockin' around the Christmas tree before the first flakes of snow even fell. But you really know it's Christmas when the rock stations start busting out their versions of the holiday standards, whittling down your resistance to the sounds of the season with each additional chord.

Love them or hate them, Christmas carols are a quintessential part of the holiday season. What songs never fail to bring a smile to your face this time of year?

I'll tell you h'what...

Gramma got ran over by a reindeer.

or is it "runned" over by a reindeer

Either way, it reminds me of my banjo-pluckin' relatives.

Personally, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.

Percy the Puny Poinsettia

Sleigh Ride as sung by Amy Grant -- My mom had this tape while I was growing up and we used to crack up at her "Yoo hoo!!!"

Here We Come A-Wassailing (although I'm not sure this is really a Christmas song... more New Year, right?)

That other Wassail song (Wassail, wassail all over the town...)

My favorite hymn (that doesn't necessarily bring a smile to my face but I feel like it's not a Christmas Eve service without it) is "What Child Is This?"

I also love "Do You Hear What I Hear?" The last two verses always choke me up.

Disclaimer: I *love* Christmas music. I can't name all the ones I like. It'd be easier to say those I don't like: The 12 Days of Christmas and Feliz Navidad.

Any instrumental version is usually my favorite rendition of a given Christmas song. Jim Brickman's take on just about all of them ranks pretty high on my list.

O Holy Night - top choice.

I'll Be Home for Christmas - a lot sweeter now that I've moved.

Silver Bells - always my favorite to play on the piano when I was younger.

Oh, and All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey. It's too fun not to like :)

I'm going with apea and saying O Holy Night and All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey. I love those songs.

I also like Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and Jingle Bell Rock - those make me smile and put me in the Christmas spirit. :)
