I'm listening to my iPod this afternoon, and "Every Rose Has its Thorn" just came on. Every time I hear this song, it absolutely breaks my heart. And, for once, it's not even related to an ex or past crush. Cheesy as it is, this song just is incredibly sad to me. "And now I hear you found somebody new, and that I never meant that much to you..." How does that not wrench your heart??
I was watching some VH-1 countdown once (Top 100 Breakup Songs, or something), and I could not believe that this was not #1. It was some random Michael Jackson song that I had never even heard of, much less cried to. How is that possible??
Okay, now I'm just babbling. It's been a long day and I felt the need to post a new QOD since we've been MIA for a while.
What songs break your heart every time you hear them, regardless of if they remind you of an ex?

ReplyDeleteOh, good grief, now "The Flame" is on. That is related to an ex (who coincidentally has the same name as my youngest child, but not remotely related -- I realized this when he was about a year and a half old).
ReplyDeleteThere are really too many to list at 5:02 on a Thursday. I'll post my list later!
"Moon River." I feel my heart tearing apart inside whenever I hear it. Especially the Morrissey version : "It's always just around the bend..."
ReplyDeleteCoincidentally, I was at a library function yesterday, and the entertainment was a local band of retired gents that play "fun music". In the midst of all the craziness, they "slowed it down a bit" and laid out "Moon River" via harmonica, banjo and bass guitar. I still wanted to leave the room. As quickly as possible.
'danny boy' usually gets me. and did anyone ever see the movie 'memphis belle' when harry connick, jr. sings it? gets me every single time. ugh.
ReplyDelete"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - I knew someone in high school who died. She loved this song. It was played at her funeral. There is a melancholy version by Eva Cassidy that does the song justice.
ReplyDeleteSomewhere Out There... yes, as in the song from An American Tale. Fivel gets me every time. I used to sob as a child every time I heard it, and to this day, I cannot listen to the whole song without getting teary eyed.
ReplyDeleteUgh, just thinking of it right now makes my chest tighten.
Btw, T Pea, I heard Every Rose Has Its Thorn on the way home today, and I totally thought of you. Great... we now have another song :)
